Exporting Stamp Layer - Saving Memory
Depending on how the stamps are used something people will often come across is increased memory. Each stamp you'd place would load the texture thus increasing your memory use, some solutions have a way to deal with this but generally speaking unreal will keep it in memory. One way you can get around this is by exporting the layer your stamps are on and then importing it onto your main landscape layer. Some, if not most, solutions won't allow you to sculpt on the stamp either. Using this method you can also start sculpting the stamp, so instead of using the LOD bias mentioned in How To Smooth you could do this and then use a smooth brush. In the clip below I show this in combination with massive world.
After you've done this you can then remove the stamps to clear the texture from (memory) use. You can keep doing this each time you expand the landscape so you can place a stamp > export > import to main layer > delete stamp, then place new stamp > export > import to main layer > delete stamp and it will keep adding. It won't reset as you can see below.
So you can make your entire world, or up to the point your memory usage is too much, and then simply export the stamp layer and import it on your main layer so you can clear the stamps and free up the memory and then continue designing your level. For how to use the stamps in combination with Massive World check the integration page below.
